Sean Bailey, the President of Walt Disney’s Motion Picture Studios, is stepping down from his position. Bailey, who has been instrumental in transforming Disney’s animation vault into a multi-billion dollar live-action movie business, is departing after a remarkable fifteen-year tenure on the lot.
Effective immediately, David Greenbaum, co-President of Searchlight, will be stepping into Bailey’s shoes. Greenbaum’s new title will be President, Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios. He will report directly to Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman.
Steve Asbell will continue to serve as President, 20th Century Studios, a role he has held since March 2020, and will now report to Greenbaum.
Alan Bergman expressed his gratitude for Bailey’s contributions, stating, “Sean has been an incredibly important member of the Studio’s creative team for well over a decade. He and his team have brought to the screen iconic stories and moments that have delighted fans around the world and will stand the test of time. I know he’ll continue to do great things, and I couldn’t be happier that he’s staying on as a producer of Tron: Ares.”
While Bailey’s departure marks the end of an era, it also signals a new chapter for Disney. Under Bailey’s leadership, Disney has seen both soaring successes and a few less-than-stellar releases. However, the magic of Disney has always been its ability to learn, grow, and continue to enchant audiences worldwide.
As Disney fans, we look forward to seeing how Greenbaum will steer the ship and continue the legacy of delivering unforgettable stories and experiences. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting transition at Disney.
