Disney World: A Magical Experience, ranked a Rip-off?

According to a recent survey conducted by casino.org, Disney World has been ranked as the "#1 biggest US tourist attraction rip-off"1. The survey revealed that 60% of respondents concluded that Disney World is the biggest rip-off for US attractions. This might come as a surprise to many, as Disney World is often referred to as the “The Most Magical Place on Earth”. However, with ticket prices starting at $109 per person could be why some visitors might feel this way.

Comparing Costs

To put this into perspective, let’s compare the cost of a day at Disney World with other common expenses:

  • Gas: The average price of gas in the US is around $3.27 per gallon. With this amount, you could fill up a 15-gallon tank about 33 times for the price of a single Disney World ticket.

  • Movies: The average movie ticket price in the US is around $10.53. This means you could watch about 10 movies for the price of one Disney World ticket.

  • Sports Games: The average ticket price for an NFL game is approximately $150, which is higher than a Disney World ticket. However, the average price of a hockey game ticket is around $94, which is less

Another factor to consider is the amount of time spent at the park compared to other activities. Let’s say you spend 3 hours at a hockey game. The cost per hour would be approximately $31.33. Now, if you spend a full day let’s say 8 hours at Disney World (Not even full day of operation), the cost per hour would be approximately $13.63.

So this calculation suggests that, in terms of cost per hour, Disney World offers more value.

State-Specific Rip-offs

The survey also ranked rip-offs by state. In California, Disneyland took the top spot, while in Missouri, Legoland made the list1.

Conclusion

While the cost of a Disney World ticket might seem steep, it’s important to consider the unique experiences and memories that a visit to this iconic park can provide. However, it’s always a good idea to plan your trip carefully to ensure you’re getting the most value for your money.
